bio

My artistic practice rarely involves one type of medium or technique; I find it difficult to settle on just one. My finished work often ends surprisingly far from where it started. The only through line I've found is the concept of layers, whether in ink, paint, collage, in between glass or in the actual framing; most work is made up of fragments of other work. This is why some pieces can take several months [or even years] to find their "finish".

My work is a culmination of years of doodling and pattern-making. What started out as simple repetitive shapes has evolved into intricate illustrations reminiscent of nature; filled with symbols and hieroglyphs. There is balance and an organic feel to the flowing shapes and textures. My desire has always been to inspire the observar to look longer and deeper; to find something interesting and unexpected.

Outside of my studio you might find me teaching [or practicing] yoga, cooking/pickling or taking care of all the kitties in Brooklyn.

I believe you can never have too many layers

I believe in letting things ferment

I believe you can be artistic + you can be a craftsman:

but the two are just so much better together.
